Cape Town Fringe is also great, and i believe repackages Mannenberg. The cover is the artwork posted above. davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06941925384358900196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459104099060577976.post-40726893779261186332014-11-24T13:05:33.656-06:002014-11-24T13:05:33.656-06:00Matt knows his stuff--all those Dollar brand lps a...Matt knows his stuff--all those Dollar brand lps are great (i've never heard African Herbs).
Never cared much for African Marketplace though....i know it's considered a good one but for me it's the start of his lps taking a downward turn. Although i do like that Ekaya record, the golden years were over. I would strongly recommend his collaboration with Johnny Dyani 'Good news From Africa' as a great entry point into his catalog. Not only is the lp great, it's a great introduction to the great South African bassist as well. Matt also reissued Dollar's wife's lp (on the Matsuli label) backed by Dollar Brand called 'African Songbird' and that's a gem. Will Matsuli be reissuing any of these DB As-shams titles? I just passed on a copy of Dollar Brand + 3 and am regretting it!davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06941925384358900196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459104099060577976.post-89309725234397990152008-05-26T16:18:00.000-05:002008-05-26T16:18:00.000-05:00Thank you very much, this is great!Thank you very much, this is great!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459104099060577976.post-83789582425774074192008-02-28T08:38:00.000-06:002008-02-28T08:38:00.000-06:00I found your post on the Nigerian Super Blog.I hav...I found your post on the Nigerian Super Blog.

I have never heard of Abdullah Ibrahim (Dollar Brand).

Thanks for the revelation.EKENYERENGOZI Michael Chimahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05034754267261591802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459104099060577976.post-46041418995041301272007-12-03T23:06:00.000-06:002007-12-03T23:06:00.000-06:00Much thanks for this one, John B.Much thanks for this one, John B.Undercover Black Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08704721024820668555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459104099060577976.post-24376219665207403142007-12-01T16:32:00.000-06:002007-12-01T16:32:00.000-06:00Whoa! IMO some of his finest recordings were made after he returned from exile (for the first time) in 1975/6 and he made a series issued by Rashid Valli's As-shams (The Sun) label. These include: Mannenberg, Soweto, African Herbs and Black Lightening. My recommendation for any newcomer is to get a copy of a CD African marketplace.matthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14742182508844340006noreply@blogger.com
